The recent Indian government directive aims to curb pharmaceutical companies' practice of enticing doctors to prescribe their medications through various inducements such as gifts, vacations, and educational materials. The 10-page document, titled the Uniform Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP) 2024, delineates a set of regulations for the industry to adhere to in the marketing and promotion of pharmaceutical products. However, despite the government's efforts, there are doubts about the effectiveness of the UCPMP in achieving its intended goals.
